Moose Mountain Fire area closure in effect

A fire area closure is now in effect for the Moose Mountain Fire Area as of this afternoon, Saturday, Aug. 22, according to a Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests Facebook post.

While the Moose Mountain Fire is not experiencing rapid fire spread, increased fire activity Saturday moved into the next Management Action Point for fire suppression operations. This predetermined trigger prompted the fire area closure.

The closure is necessary to protect public and firefighter safety as the fire continues progressing east toward values at risk in the Deception Saddle and Independence Creek areas. The closure also allows firefighters to safely conduct suppression operations and move equipment throughout the area. The following roads and trails are closed:

Roads

• NFSR 5295 - Closed in its entirety
• NFSR 250 - Closed from the junction with NFSR 255 at Kelly Forks Work Center to the intersection with NFSR 255 and Deception Saddle Road
• NFSR 250 - Closed from Cedars Campground to the junction with NFSR 255 at Deception Saddle
• NFSR 255 - Closed from the junction with NFSR 250 at Deception Saddle to the intersection with NFSR 581 at Old Kelly Creek Ranger Station
• NFSR 737 - Closed in its entirety

Trails

• NFST 169 - Closed in its entirety
• NFST 176 - Closed in its entirety
• NFST 445 - Closed in its entirety
• NFST 814 - Closed in its entirety
• NFST 815 - Closed in its entirety
