Mile Marker 50 Fire near Greer held at 7 acres, US 12 open to one-lane traffic

GREER -- Mile Marker 50 Fire upriver from Orofino, west of Greer, was held at 7 acres overnight and U.S. Highway 12 has been opened to one lane, alternating traffic with a pilot car.

Fire lines and hose lays are most of the way around the fire. One hand crew and five engines are to remain on the fire Thursday to secure it and begin mop up operations. Pilot car operations are in place just west of the Greer grade for three miles. Travelers should expect delays and follow directions from traffic control crews.

Fire operations remain active in the area, and travel conditions may change as the response continues. Motorists should slow down and watch for firefighters, emergency personnel and equipment entering and exiting the highway.
