Wildfire closes US 12 between mileposts 49-51

GREER- A new fire start has shut down U.S. Highway 12 on the Clearwater River upstream from Orofino from mile markers 49-51, according to Idaho Transportation Department.

The fire is currently about 7 acres in size with 5 engines, 1 crew, 2 helicopters, and 2 single engine air tankers fighting the fire. The fire was first reported about 3:45pm. One residence and Avista powerlines to Weippe and Headquarters are threatened, Idaho Department of Lands reported.

ITD has closed the highway in both directions for the time being for firefighter and public safety. Travelers are advised to choose alternate routes and check in with Idaho 511 and the Idaho Transportation Department for any highway closure or reopening updates.
