Dworshak Dam to increase releases starting June 5

AHSAHKA - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Thursday that Dworshak Dam releases will gradually increase from approximately 1,700 cubic feet per second to 6,400 cfs by the evening of Sunday, June 7.

After reaching 2,200 cfs Friday evening, June 5, outflows will see notable rises over the weekend, reaching 4,300 cfs on Saturday, June 6, and 6,400 cfs on Sunday, June 7. Throughout the following week, releases are anticipated to fluctuate between 4,000 and 7,500 cfs.

These releases will maintain the reservoir elevation within half a foot of full pool. (Editor's note: Full pool is considered to be 1600 feet.

The current operation is expected to keep total dissolved gas below 110%. USACE is working with regional water managers, other agencies, tribes, and fish managers and hatcheries in joint efforts to meet reservoir objectives and keep TDG below the Idaho state maximum threshold of 110% when possible.

For safety, the public is advised to be aware of the danger associated with fluctuating river flows and elevations. Caution should be used near riverbanks. Boaters, anglers and others using waterways both in Dworshak Reservoir and downstream on the Clearwater River should remain alert to changes in water elevation and flow volume.

Current Dworshak water-management conditions can be viewed on the Walla Walla District website at https://www.nwd.usace.army.mil/CRWM/Water-Control-Data/Project-Data/.
