LPD investigating officer involved shooting in Weippe that results in suspect's death WEIPPE - The Lewiston Police Department is conducting an independent investigation into an officer involved shooting that occurred Friday, June 12, in Clearwater County resulting in the suspect's death. Clearwater County Sheriff's Office deputies were serving an arrest warrant and a search warrant at a residence near Weippe when the male suspect barricaded himself inside with an adult female. CCSO requested assistance from the Idaho State Police SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team. Negotiators attempted for several hours to resolve the situation peacefully, according to the LPD news release. During the incident, the suspect fired multiple times at ISP personnel. Officers returned fire, and the suspect was struck. Medical aid was provided immediately, but the suspect later died, LPD said. One ISP SWAT member was struck in the helmet by a grazing round but was not injured. The adult female inside the residence sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported for evaluation, the release said. The Clearwater County Coroner's Office will release the suspect's identity after next-of-kin notification. As part of the District 2 Critical Incident Task Force, the Lewiston Police Department is leading the independent investigation. Findings will be forwarded to the local prosecutor for review.
