National Weather Service issues Winter Weather Advisories

National Weather Service-Missoula has issued two Winter Weather Advisories for the upper regions of Clearwater County.

The first is from 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday above 4,500 feet and the second from 5 p.m. Sunday through noon Monday above 3,500 feet.

The first advisory forecasts snow. There is a likelihood of minor to moderate winter weather impacts. Total snow accumulations up to 3 inches. For the second Winter Weather Advisory above 3,500 feet, snow is also expected. There is a likelihood of moderate to isolated major winter weather impacts. Total additional snow accumulations up to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour.

Areas of particular impact include: Lolo Pass, Elk City, Dixie and Highway 93 Sula to Lost Trail Pass.

Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Strong winds could cause reduced visibility with blowing snow and knock down trees and branches. Falling temperatures early Sunday morning will lead to rapidly freezing wet roadways at the higher elevations.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions
