Fire damages apartment Saturday afternoon

Fire damaged an apartment at 704 Riverside Ave. early Saturday afternoon, according to Orofino Assistant Fire Chief Josh Pospychalla.

While the fire was contained to the downstairs apartment, Pospychalla said there was smoke and possible structural damage to the building. The fire was seen by a passerby and they were able to notify the other residents. A dog whose owners were not home was rescued from one of the other apartments. There were no injuries.

Six firefighters and two engines from OFD responded. Clearwater County Ambulance Service was on site in case of injury. Orofino Police Department and Clearwater County Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control.

Cause of the fire is under investigation, Pospychalla said.
