Fire destroys motorhome, fifth wheel off Upper Fords Creek Road Sunday Fire destroyed a motorhome and fifth wheel on Highland Court off Upper Fords Creek Rd. Sunday, according to Orofino Fire Chief Bart Jones. Jones said a motorhome was being driven down Upper Fords Creek Road and the brakes caught on fire. It hit an unoccupied fifth wheel on the corner of Highland Court and Dewey and that also caught on fire. Both of those recreational vehicles were destroyed by the fire. An unoccupied single-wide mobile home on the lot was impacted by radiant heat that broke the front window and melted a garbage can. There were no injuries, but one firefighter was treated by Clearwater County Ambulance Service for heat exhaustion due to the high temperatures. Jones said that once the fire was contained to the RVs, the intensity of the attack on the fire was reduced to lower the risk of more firefighters experiencing heat exhaustion. Roadways around the fire were closed for 1 ½ -2 hours to give firefighters the space they needed to work on the fire. Twin Ridge and Upper Fords Creek fire departments responded, but were released when the fire was contained. Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association responded, but the fire around the RVs was less than 1/10 acre. Orofino Police Department and Clearwater County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene. Here are some of the photos taken by a bystander: Jones shared these photos of the aftermath: |
