Overdue man found deceased in backcountry search

On Friday at about 1:41 a.m., the Clearwater County Sheriff's Office received a report of an overdue person on a UTV (utility-terrain-vehicle) near Elk River.

Deputies responded along with Search and Rescue members and began searching for said person. The search covered a very large area from Elk River to Dworshak Reservoir and included searchers in pickups, UTV's, a drone and the Back Country Medics Helicopter. Searchers talked to several other hunters that were camped in the area and several of them assisted in the search.

The missing UTV was found at approximately noon near the South Fork of Robinson Creek by hunters that had volunteered to help. The operator and sole occupant was located deceased near the UTV. The UTV had rolled down off an old logging road and the operator was ejected. The operator was identified as Dale Law, 43, Hayden. Law was a Deputy with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.
