Mark Swayne elected mayor by Orofino City Council

Orofino's City Council elected one of its members, Mark Swayne, as mayor Tuesday night during their regular meeting.

Swayne replaces Sean Simmons whose resignation was effective Sept. 21.

Joshua Tilley was elected pro-tem (council president) during their meeting Sept. 10 following the resignation of Jennifer Dunaway who had been in that position. However, that leaves the council one member short.

Residents who would like to apply for the open council position are asked to notify the city by Nov. 5 when a work session is scheduled. During the work session, applicants will have an opportunity to answer questions submitted by the public and council members. Since no votes are taken at work sessions, the next opportunity for the council to choose two new members would be their regular meeting Nov. 12.

The work session as with all council meetings, except executive sessions, are open to the public. This work session will begin at 6 p.m. and be held in the City Council Chambers, 217 1st St.
