Gwen Fire grows overnight to 26,264 acres The Gwen Fire grew overnight to 26,264 acres with 0% containment. Closure of U.S. Highway 12 has been reduced to the area from Lenore (milepost 28) to Spalding (milepost 11). The closure is due to the Gwen Fire and firefighting efforts. Communities impacted include: Juliaetta, Lapwai, Culdesac, Gifford and Myrtle. Primary residences, outbuildings and a commercial building are among the structures lost. About 300 people have evacuated from the fire area. The Gwen and River fires have been combined into one incident called the Gwen Fire. The River Fire started north of the Clearwater River and U.S. Highway 12, but crossed over so there is fire on both sides of US 12. Fire Information:
