National Weather Service issues Excessive Heat Warning Friday through Tuesday

National Weather Service-Missoula has issued an Excessive Heat Warning from Friday noon through Tuesday 11 a.m. for the Orofino/Grangeville Region, Southern Clearwater Mountains and Northern Clearwater Mountains and Lower Hells Canyon/Salmon River Region.

This level of rare and/or long duration extreme heat with little to no overnight relief affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Impacts are likely in most health systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions

  • Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
  • Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
  • Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed.
