National Weather Service issues Winter Weather Advisory

National Weather Service-Missoula has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Northern Clearwater Mountains and the Orofino/Grangeville region, each with their own forecast.

In both areas, travel could be impacted. They are advising motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions are available by calling 511.

Northern Clearwater Mountains

The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday through 4 a.m. Monday. Snow is expected with total snow accumulations between 5 to 8 inches below 5,000 feet and 9 to 12 inches in the higher terrain. Travel could be impacted.

Areas of particular note are Pierce, Idaho Highway 11 Pierce to Headquarters and Elk River.

Pierce, elevation 3,085 feet

Saturday afternoon--Snow. High near 34. South wind around 6 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday night--Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 25. South southwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible.

Sunday--Snow before 1 p.m., then rain and snow. High near 37. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Orofino/Grangeville Region

The advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday.

Snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and up to 5 inches on the higher benches and grades. Of particular note are Greer Grade, Camas Prairie and Grangeville and vicinity.

Orofino, elevation 1,039 feet

Saturday afternoon--Snow. High near 41. East southeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday night--Snow before 7pm, then rain and snow. Snow level 1,800 feet. Low around 34. Southeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Sunday--Rain. High near 42. East southeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
