Fiddle Vane Pulp prescribed burn underway southwest of Weippe

A prescribed fire, Fiddle Vane Pulp, is currently underway southwest of Weippe.

This prescribed fire will treat approximately 96 acres.

When planning a prescribed fire, fire officials consider a variety of factors including the safety of the public and fire crews, weather, and conditions on the ground. Prescribed fires are often used to reduce dangerous fuel loads.

Crews from the Idaho Department of Lands' Craig Mountain office and Maggie Creek Supervisory Area, along with personnel from Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association, are conducting this burning operation.

Most wildfires are caused by humans. Be part of the solution - learn how!

  • Be aware of and follow all fire restrictions
  • During closed burn season, before burning debris apply for a free burn permit - it is the law
  • Use campfires safely by staying clear of flammable debris and burning on mineral soil
  • Maintain vehicles and OHVs (Off-Highway-Vehicles) properly - especially their tires - so they do no spark a fire
  • Secure trailer chains so they do not drag and cause a fire
  • Never park over dry grass because hot exhaust systems can start a fire
