It was discovered around 2 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Thursday. It is burning off Idaho Highway 11 near mile marker 5.5 where the twisting highway connects Greer along the Clearwater River with Weippe, Pierce and Headquarters. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Resources on scene are making good progress and have had the same number of crews working the fire. Two more type 6 engines were ordered Friday. A type 3 helicopter worked most of the day cooling hot spots. No other aircraft was used Friday, IDL reported.

Fire officials remind citizens to never fly drones near wildfires. When a drone is in the air, their aircraft must be grounded, putting the lives of firefighters at risk.
