Wildland fire on Upper Fords Creek under investigation

The cause of a wildland fire that started Thursday afternoon near mile marker 3 on Upper Fords Creek Rd. is under investigation, according to Tammy Davis, Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association.

The grass fire reached 24 acres before a perimeter was established around it Friday.

In addition to C-PTPA, Upper Fords Creek Rural Fire, Orofino Rural Fire, 74 Hotel (helicopter) and Friday, an engine crew from Idaho Department of Lands in Kamiah, responded to assist.

The grass in lower elevations is standing and dry without a chance to green up yet. People doing debris burning need to be extra careful. Fires in in this grass can spread quickly, especially if there is a wind.
