NWS-Missoula issues Excessive Heat Warning

National Weather Service (NWS)-Missoula has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Orofino/Grangeville Region and Lower Hells Canyon/Salmon River Region from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 11 p.m. Thursday.

Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures of 105 to 115 degrees below 2,500 feet, including Orofino, Riggins, Hells Canyon and the Salmon River are forecast. Temperatures of 97 to 105 degrees above 2,500 to 3,500 include Grangeville.

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events.

Precautionary/preparedness actions

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and/or pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
