National Weather Service-Missoula issues Winter Weather Advisory for snow

National Weather Service-Missoula has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Orofino/Grangeville region, Northern Clearwater Mountains and surrounding regions form 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.

Orofino/Grangeville region

Snow is expected with total accumulations of two to five inches. Highest amounts are expected in Orofino and vicinity. Other areas of impact are Greer Grade, Camas Prairie, Grangeville and vicinity.

Temperatures are forecast to improve from the single digits and below zero of Thursday.

Orofino, elevation 1,039 feet

Friday, snow and areas of freezing fog are forecast before 2 p.m., then areas of freezing fog after 4 p.m. The high is expected to be near 26 degrees with a light east wind. New snow accumulation two to four inches is possible. Friday night, snow is forecast mainly before 5 a.m. with the snow level rising to 2,200 feet. The low is expected to be around 25 degrees. New snow accumulation of around an inch is possible.

Northern Clearwater Mountains

Snow is expected with total accumulations of four to seven inches, higher totals are possible around Elk River. Highest snow intensities are expected Friday afternoon.

Areas of particular impact include Elk River, Pierce and Idaho Highway 11 from Pierce to Headquarters.

Pierce, elevation 3,085 feet

Friday, snow and patchy fog are expected before 11 a.m. Areas of freezing fog are expected after 10 a.m. with a high near 21 degrees and calm winds. New snow accumulation of two to four inches is possible. Friday night, snow is forecast, mainly before 4 a.m. Calm winds and a low around 19 are forecast. Ne snow accumulation of one to two inches is possible.
