Joint School District #171 Trustees adopt state sports guidelines

With some additions, trustees of Joint School District #171 in a special meeting Wednesday adopted the guidelines of High School Athletic Plan for Governor's Orders on Gatherings and Spectators as published by the Idaho High School Activities Association (IHSAA).

The guidelines outline how many people are allowed to be at sporting events for winter sports. It includes the number of team, spectators and support personnel may be at the specific event, well as addressing masking, social distancing and etc.

To see the full policy at the IHSAA website.

The trustees added that if compliance is not maintained the policy will go back to Phase 2 protocols. Administrators and coaches have been given the responsibility of enforcing and reporting violations.

The current policy does not address junior high school sports and the board plans to adopt those when they come out. There are no junior high games until after the next regularly scheduled meeting of the trustees Jan. 25. Dr. Michael Garrett, superintendent, said the matter is on the governor's desk and he expects more info on it in the next few days.

There is also a need to measure the Orofino Elementary School gym where some of the junior high events are held. The size will determine the number of people that will be allowed in the event.
