Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy has outbreak of COVID-19

Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy had an outbreak of COVID-19 this week that included 20 cadets and 2 staff, according to Director Trevor Sparrow.

The outbreak prompted an early, virtual graduation Friday and the cadets returned home Saturday. The outbreak stemmed from the cadets' home pass, Sparrow said.

The next class at the academy will begin Jan. 15, 2022.

With the outbreak, Clearwater County was one of the three top counties with the highest COVID infections in the seven-day moving average. Benewah County was at 83.0%, Clearwater at 65.3% and Fremont at 48.0% per 100,000 people, according to Idaho Department of Health and Welfare statistics.
