Nezperce man injured in early morning crash on Gilbert Grade

A Nezperce man received minor injuries in an early morning crash about half a mile up Idaho Highway 7, Gilbert Grade, Wednesday, according to Clearwater County Sheriff's Office.

At about 12:58 am, a CCSO Deputy, Clearwater County Ambulance Service and Orofino Fire Rescue 3, responded to the area. Roger D Vanmuyden, 56, Nezperce, was driving his 2005 Ram 2500 pick-up when he misjudged a left hand corner on the gravel road and drove over the steep embankment. His vehicle sustained major damage. He was not wearing his seatbelt and both front airbags deployed. Vanmuyden was transported to Clearwater Valley Hospital with minor injuries, CCSO reported.

The vehicle was removed from the scene by Jacksons Towing out of Kamiah. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor, according to CCSO.
