Clearwater County COVID-19 cases jump 10 on Friday

On Friday, the number of cases of COVID-19 in Clearwater County jumped by 10 to 63, the largest number of confirmed cases reported in one day in the county,

The 10 new cases were split with five females and five males. They were split into several age groups. Three were in the 13-17-year-old age group; three in the 40s, two in the 60s and one each in the 30s and 70s age groups.

Last Friday, Sept. 25, there were only 44 cases in the county, meaning that over the last week the numbers have increased 43.1818 percent.

Since the first case was reported June 26, the numbers have gone up at much smaller increments. The last big jumps were six on July 23 and five on Sept. 25.

Of the total 63 cases, there are 40 open cases and 23 'recovered' according the Public Health-Idaho North Central District website. Public Health said, "Presumed recovered is defined as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days post-onset (or referral date if onset is not available) based upon total cases, deaths, and any clinical info available. We are aware that some people might take longer to recover, but that is the standard we are using at this time because it is the accepted average. Some get better in a week, some in 6 weeks, but 30 days is the accepted average. The range is 2 weeks - 6 weeks for 97 percent of cases. A small proportion will get better faster and a small proportion will get better much later, but 97 percent of all cases fall into the 2-6-week range."

The age group in the county with the largest number of cases is the 40s age group with 13; the 30s have 12; 13-17 has 9, 18-29 has 7; three age groups: 5-12, 50s and 70s have 6 each; 70s has 3 cases.

In the North Central District there are 1,394 cases with 25 deaths, 24 in Nez Perce County and 1 in Lewis County. Lewis County has the lowest number of cases at 35, followed by Clearwater with 63, Idaho County 219, Nez Perce 463 and Latah with 569.
