Home on Old Ahsahka Grade destroyed by fire

A home at 185 Old Ahsahka Grade was destroyed by fire early Monday, but there were no injuries reported, according to Clearwater County Sheriff's Office.

At about 8 minutes after midnight the fire was reported and Orofino Fire Department and Clearwater County Sheriff's Office deputies responded. Homeowners 58-year-old Pamela and 71-year-old Gerrard Stamper reported the fire after being awakened by a fire alarm, CCSO said.

The fire was believed to have started as a chimney fire and then spread to the attic. There were no injuries reported, however, the home was a total loss.

OFD Interim Chief Holly Hardin said they were able to save the outbuildings. One of the challenges was shuttling water tenders up and down the long, narrow driveway. The structure will continue to smolder for a few days until the fire is completely out, she added.

In addition to OFD and CCSO, Sunnyside Rural Fire District personnel responded under mutual aid to assist with a water tender and Clearwater County Ambulance Service came in case of injuries.
