Red Cross opens shelter for Lawyer Complex Fire evacuees

The Red Cross shelter for evacuees from the Lawyer Complex Fire is located at the Clearwater Valley Elementary School at 306 Pine Avenue in Kooskia.

If possible, evacuees are asked to please bring bedding, blankets, a change of clothes, medications, toys for children and anything else they need to be comfortable. Red Cross volunteers are ready to welcome them at the shelter.

For those who have yet to evacuate, please download Red Cross free Emergency App at http://www.redcross.org/mobile-apps/emergency-app or download their free Wildfire Apps at http://www.redcross.org/mobile-apps/wildfire-app. Their apps will help people prepare quickly for an evacuation. People can also go to their web site at http://redcross.org/prepare/disaster/wildfire.

The fairgrounds in the city of Nezperce will house privately-owned livestock that have been displaced by the Lawyer Complex Fire. For more information, please call Lewis County Public Information Officer at 208-937-2311, according to Red Cross volunteer Layla Johnson.

During office hours, displaced pets can be dropped off at Dr. Duane Wolverton's clinic at 203 1st Street in Kamiah. Please call ahead if possible (208-935-0241). Those who need help to house their pet after hours, please call or text Wolverton at 208-827-1662 or 208-476-5757.

The Lawyer Complex Fires had grown to 3,710 acres Thursday and were 15 percent contained. There are 300 personnel on the fires.
