NWS issues Winter Weather Advisory

National Weather Service-Missoula has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 p.m. Tuesday through 10 a.m. Wednesday for the Orofino/Grangeville region, Lower Hells Canyon/Salmon River region.

The advisory is for snow and freezing rain. Snow and freezing rain is expected across the Camas Prairie and lower elevation river corridors of central Idaho late Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. A mix of snow and black ice on area roadways will make for hazardous driving conditions. One to three inches is expected for the Camas Prairie, with less than one inch below 2,000 feet.

Locations of impact include: Greer Grade, Camas Prairie, Grangeville and vicinity, U.S. Highway 95 Slate Creek to Riggins and White Bird Grade.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use cause while driving.

Orofino, at elevation 1,040 feet, is expected to have rain Monday evening before 10, then rain possibly mixed with freezing rain. A low around 32 degrees is expected. Little or no ice accumulation is expected. Wednesday rain with a high near 41 is forecast. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Rain is likely Wednesday night, mainly after 4 p.m. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent and the low will be around 35 degrees.

Thursday, rain is likely, mainly before 10 a.m. A high of 40 degrees is forecast with chance of precipitation at 60 percent.

Pierce, at elevation 3,241 feet, has a chance of snow Tuesday night before 10 p.m., then snow possibly mixed with freezing rain between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., then rain and snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain after 4 a.m. The rain could be heavy at times. A low of 24 degrees is expected. Little or no ice accumulation is expected. New snow accumulation of one to three inches is possible.

Wednesday, rain possibly mixed with freezing rain, becoming all rain after 10 am. The rain could be heavy with a high near 38 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent with little or no ice accumulation expected. Wednesday night rain is likely before 10 p.m., then snow is likely. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent and a low around 29 is forecast. New snow accumulation of two to four inches is possible.

Thursday, snow is likely with chance of precipitation at 70 percent and a high near 33 degrees. New snow accumulation of one to three inches is possible.
