IDOC searching for two Cottonwood escapees

Idaho Department of Correction is searching for two men who have escaped from the North Idaho Correctional Institution in Cottonwood Wednesday morning, they announced.

A news release said the two men were helping unload a delivery truck and fled at 10:45 a.m. Pacific time Wednesday.

IDOC identified the escapees as:

  • Tyler Dean Davis, IDOC #103798
  • Dylan James Ames, 107450

Ames is a 23-year-old white male, 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Davis is a 23-year-old white male that is 5 foot 9 inches tall and 200 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes, according to IDOC.

Ames was sentenced Feb. 26 in Kootenai County, to 5 to 10 years for one count of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Davis was sentenced on March 4 in Ada County to 2 to 5 years for grand theft, according to IDOC.

NICI is a program-specific prison with an operating capacity of 414 male offenders. NICI primarily houses offenders sentenced under a retained jurisdiction sentence. Retained jurisdiction provides a sentencing alternative for courts to target offenders who might, after a period of programming and evaluation, be viable candidates for probation rather than incarceration.
