NWS upgrades forecast to High Wind Warning for some areas

National Weather Service-Missoula has upgraded the forecast to a High Wind Warning for the Camas Prairie, Grangeville vicinity and U.S. Highway 95 from 4 a.m. Pacific Time Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday.

Starting early Saturday, a cold front will approach the region with very gusty winds. These winds will have the potential to create widespread power outages and downed trees. High winds will pose an issue for high profile vehicles.

Sustained southwest winds of 30 to 50 miles per hour with gusts approaching 60 mph are expected in some areas. Grangeville should se the highest winds with gusts reaching and exceeding 60 mph for a prolonged period.

Locations of impact include: Camas Prairie, Grangeville and vicinity, U.S. Highway 95 Slate Creek to Riggins and White Bird Grade.

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 50 mph or more can lead to property damage.

A High Wind Watch issued earlier for much of the rest of region into western Montana remains. For updates see the NWS-Missoua web site at: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mso/.
