Man in custody after stand-off with law enforcement

A man is in custody after a stand-off with law enforcement late Thursday into early Friday morning, according to Clearwater County Sheriff's Office (CCSO).

At about 11:48 p.m. Thursday, patrol deputies and an officer from the Orofino Police Department responded to a residence near Rudo Rd. Prior to the 911 call, Randy R. Kester allegedly pointed a rifle at another person and fired a few rounds in the general direction. The initial witness claimed that Kester was suicidal. Upon arrival, the officers were in a stand-off with the suspect who was outside a residence making statements he wanted to end his life in a shoot out with the police, according to CCSO.

Kester then continued to tell the officers he wanted to be shot or he would shoot at them. Eventually, after an hour negotiations with the man, he finally approached the patrol vehicle claiming he wanted to end his life. When he approached the front bumper, one of the deputies deployed his Taser and Kester was safely taken into custody, the news release said.

Kester is currently being held in the Clearwater County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Aggravated Assault and a warrant from Asotin County, WA, according to CCSO.
