Orofino man dies in horse riding accident

An Orofino man died in a horse riding accident Tuesday morning about 8:57 in the Crow Bench area outside Orofino, according to Clearwater County Chief Deputy Rick Miller.

Clearwater County Sheriff's Office deputies, along with the Clearwater County Ambulance Service were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive male subject. When they arrived they determined that James Gray, 79, Orofino was deceased. He had been riding a horse, ended up on the ground and sustained severe chest trauma causing his death. The horse was found in an open corral with the saddle hanging underneath. No one witnessed the accident, Miller said.
