Source of explosives under investigation

The source of explosives found by the railroad tracks near Independence Rd. and Grangemont Rd., about 1/4 mile from the Orofino city limits, is still under investigation, according to Clearwater County Chief Deputy Rick Miller.

Clearwater County Sheriff's Dispatch received a call about 6:45 Sunday that explosives had been found by the tracks. When deputies arrived, they determined that the items were suspicious and appeared to be an explosive. Assistance was requested from the Spokane County Explosive Unit. When the explosives unit arrived, they determined that the items were the explosive part for grenades and multiple ignition time fuses.

According to a news release, the items were properly destroyed.
