Early morning fire destroys home

An early morning fire Tuesday pretty well destroyed the home at 306 S Second St. in Elk River, according to Elk River Assistant Fire Chief Larry Yockey.

Edith Griffin, owner of the residence, had noticed a little smoke earlier but did not call for help until 4:30 a.m., Yockey said. She was able to exit the house safely. Though the house was severely damaged, Griffin may be able to salvage some of her possessions. She is being cared for by family.

It appears that the fire had an electrical cause. There were no serious injuries and no other structures were damaged, though there was another house close by.

Yockey expressed thanks to Deary Fire Department and citizens of Elk River who helped.
